The Last Emperor is a biographical drama film about the life of Puyi, the final emperor of China. The story follows his early childhood as he ascends to power at age three and struggles with growing up in isolation within the Forbidden City. As he grows older, Puyi becomes conflicted between traditional Chinese values and Western influence. He is eventually overthrown by revolutionaries in 1911 and later becomes a puppet emperor under Japanese occupation during World War II. The film depicts his eventual rehabilitation by the Communist government before his death in 1967.
